TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi today inspected the free homecoming program using ships with a route of Jakarta-Semarang. Some 27,000 home-comers landed at Tanjung Emas Port. The program was established in a bid to reduce homecomers using motorcycles.

“Thank God, the occupation of each ship on average is up to 90 percent from 30,000 provided quota,” said Budi at the port, Semarang, Central Java. Tanjung Emas port is one of the ship stops during Eid’s homecoming season.

At around 09:30 local times, a pioneer ship Sabuk Nusantara 80 had anchored and dropped thousands of passengers from Tanjung Priok port, Jakarta. The total travel time reached 24 hours.

Minister Budi admitted there were some lacks on the program using ships. One of them was the occupancy rate that did not reach complete figure 100 percent and the queue that took a long time.

“But, when I offered to join the program next year, they said yes,” said Budi regarding the free homecoming program using sea transportation.
