TEMPO.CO, Makassar - Muhammad Alif (14), a student of Binamu I Junior High School, died after he accidently shot himself while playing with his father’s gun on Sunday, December 25, 2016. His father is First Insp. Tengku who works at Jeneponto Police Resort, South Sulawesi.

Jeneponto Police Chief, Comr. Hery Susanto confirmed the incident. Hery explained that it began when Tengku went home to take a shower. Tengku placed his gun on top of a cupboard. After he showered and had lunch, Tengku then rushed to work again for his shift at Jeneponto Police station but he forgot to take his gun with him.

After Tengku left for work, Alif took his father’s gun from the top of the cupboard. He then went to the living room while playing with the gun but accidently fired the gun which eventually hit his left chest.

“He’s a kid, he thought it was a toy gun,” Hery said on Monday, December 26, 2016.

According to Hery, the incident took place around 16.00 pm. After receiving the report, he and Jeneponto police personnel arrived at the scene at 19.30 pm for further investigation.

“We’re currently conducting an investigation and we’ve received statements from the victim’s father,” Hery said. Tengku will also be receiving a disciplinary punishment for failing to store his gun properly.

Alif was rushed to the hospital by his mother and aunt with a motorcycle but unfortunately, Alif died because of his injuries.
