TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Emerson Yuntho, coordinator of legal and justice monitoring division at the Indonesia Corruption Watch, urged President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to prevent the House of Representatives from revising the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) law by not appointing government’s representative to discuss the draft bill.
“Jokowi must boycott House’s initiative to revise the KPK law. Jokowi must remember the commitment to postpone the KPK draft bill discussion this year,” Emerson said on Sunday, November 29, 2015.
In addition, Emerson called on the House to be consistent in discussing Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Law Procedures Code (KUHAP) draft bills as set in the 2015 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
“The House should have been consistent by discussing KUHP and KUHAP draft bills based on 2015 Prolegnas, instead of prioritizing the KPK draft bill, of which people see it as an initiative of corruptors and KPK haters,” he explained.
Emerson also reminded Jokowi with his Nawacita programs that included KPK reinforcement.
“If the government agrees with the House about the KPK law revision, it means that the government is killing the KPK,” Emerson added.
Earlier, the government and the House had agreed to propose the tax amnesty draft bill and KPK law revision. Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly had approved the two draft bills to be included in 2015 Prolegnas and ratified by the end this year.
