TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) urges all parties not to be provoked by the recent incident in Tolikara, Papua. "It is difficult to prevent people from being provoked," said Basri Bermandia, Head of MUI's Laws and Regulations Division, on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.

MUI Deputy Chariman Maruf Amin, said that the organization will push to establish religious peace in Papua. Maruf added that the government and the media must be cautious in delivering reports related to the incident to prevent the public from being provoked.

According to Maruf, solidarity between Muslims must be used to avoid potential conflict. Maruf hoped that the Religious Affairs Ministry, the National Intelligence Agency and the National Police will become increasingly aware of potential conflict in other regions, especially conflicts related to religion.

The MUI refused to provide further comments regarding the situation in Tolikara. However, the organization will form an investigation team to be sent to the location.
