TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Muhammad Syaugi said that his team is optimistic and has not faced major difficulties upon retrieving the black box of the crashed Lion Air flight JT 610 under the waters of Tanjung Karawang.
“There are no obstacles, it’s just a matter of time to recover [the black box],” said Syaugi at the emergency post in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta on Tuesday.

He explained that the Basarnas together with a joint effort rescue team are currently focused on evacuating victims of the crashed commercial aircraft and is also focused on finding craft’s main fuselage since its black box would often be in its vicinity.
Syaugi said that there are four ships equipped with a multibeam echosounder tasked in the evacuation which has been a major advantage for the team’s efforts in the murky waters of Tanjung Karawang.
Up until the publishing of this article, the joint evacuation team has retrieved several parts of the Lion Air crash victims that were taken in a total of 47 body bags to the Police Hospital in Kramat Jati.
