Crashed Lion Air`s Black Box Analysis will Take A Long Time

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Questions still arise upon what caused the Lion Air flight JT 610 to crash into the Tanjung Karawang sea in West Java.
This can only be cleared once the aircraft’s black box containing information from the craft’s flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder is obtained. Once discovered, the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) will need a long time to analyze it.
“If there are hopes that [the analysis] could be made public, I deeply regret to say that it cannot be done soon,” said KNKT investigator Ony Suryo Wibowo in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 30.

Ony said that the entire analysis process of the black box could last months and up to years. “ We are given one year to analyze the black box, but we are required to create a preliminary report within the first month,” he said.
Within the first initial month, according to the KNKT investigator, the preliminary report will contain facts and records that have been recovered such as the pilot’s qualification, weather report during the incident, the shape of recovered pieces, and the location of the crash site.
Ony explained that the one-year deadline given to the KNKT team of investigators is to determine the main cause of the Lion Air crash. He maintained that there is a possibility that the team will visit the aircraft’s manufacturer used by Lion Air located in the United States. “This is what may take such a long tedious process,” said Ony Suryo.
