5 Points in Jokowi Cabinet Meeting on Disaster Management

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo along with ministers and state institution heads held a meeting regarding the evaluation of disaster management in State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Oct 16. The meeting highlighted disaster management in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province and Palu, Donggala, and Sigi, Central Sulawesi Province. The five points of the meeting result are as follows:
1. Disaster education
Jokowi asked all ministers and state agency heads observe the early warning system and yield disaster education for the community.
2. Quicken the fund aid of housing program for Lombok quake victim
Jokowi urged the fund aid for the victims to be immediately distributed. Moreover, he said, the government had reduced the procedure of aid delivery from 17 to 1 step. The liability of the aid distribution must be accountable, he underlined.
3. Only 202 houses built in Lombok
The Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said there was some 10,000 bank account prepared for victims of Lombok quake, while only 202 houses had been built thus far.
According to Basuki, on Thursday, Oct 18, the aid would be disbursed through community groups, victims of Lombok quake. Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Province was demanded to coordinate his mayors to form the group.
4. Wiranto and Puan Maharani are required to write SOP of disaster management
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) head Willem Rampangilei said Jokowi asked for the standard operational procedure (SOP) on the disaster management because the current document was unclear.
According to Williem, President commanded the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto and the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs to draft the SOP.
5. Jokowi orders the operation of state offices in Central Sulawesi
Jokowi urged the meeting participants to focus on handling the evacuees, evacuation process, and medical services in Palu City, Donggala District, and Sigi District, Central Sulawesi, following deadly earthquake and tsunami. “And also logistics distribution, we assure it will be equal and reach to all disaster-hit regions.”
Jokowi further demanded market and state offices and public services return to immediately operated thus the economy could be sustained.
