TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta public transportation operator Transjakarta president director Budi Kaliwono said the implementation of odd-even policy in several city roads had a positive impact on raising the number of passengers.

“Our bus speed also increases to 25 kilometers per hour from previously 20 kilometers,” said Budi in a discussion regarding the fruits of odd-even policy in the Institute of Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 10.

Budi explained the number of passengers before the regulation commenced in June amounted to 14.46 million people, and the figure rose to 18.14 million passengers after it took effect to date.

Besides, the driving speed of Transjakarta bus passing through the routes where the policy implemented increased. In April 2018, the bus speed at corridor 8 was around 21.7 km per hour, while in August 2018, it reached 26.8 km per hour.

“The policy saves time and energy,” he noted.

Budi further mentioned that he witnessed the stable trend on the number of bus passengers post the odd-even policy halted temporarily after the Asian Games ended. “Until the establishment of Asian Para Games, the number of passengers is stable; not decreases. That means many new passengers are satisfied using the Transjakarta bus.”

The new odd-even policy would expire on Saturday, October 13, as the 2018 Asian Para Games is ended.
