TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro Jaya Police`s traffic directorate will begin testing its latest policy of electronic ticketing (e-tilang) system at the beginning of October along Jakarta’s Sudirman-Thamrin street.
Violators will be monitored by cameras installed in several spots in the area.
Metro Jaya Traffic Director Grand Commissioner Yusuf stated that the cameras are already operable and are mainly focused at intersections. However, police will focus its efforts on a number of violations during the testing period; “Such as the odd-even number plate policy,” said Yusuf on Tuesday, September 18.
Road users that often run red lights or violate road markings will also be the main subjects to the cameras’ prying lenses. “Vehicles that do not violate any rules will not be captured by the cameras,” he said.
The images of the violations will be directly sent to the TMC Metro Jaya headquarters immediately where it will be verified first by four police personnel that are stationed every day at the headquarters.
According to Yusuf, the electronic ticketing system will be applied once the cameras detect a violation where police will follow it up by sending the ticket to the address of the said violator, which is based on the records of the vehicles registrations.
