TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Law and Human Rights Ministry will be giving remission to 80,430 inmates in Indonesia on Eid al-Fitr. Out of the total inmates receiving the remission, 446 inmates will be released and the remaining 79,984 inmates will continue to serve their punishment.
In details, 51,775 inmates will receive 1 month remission; 21,399 inmates will receive 15 days remission; 6,125 inmates will receive 1 month and 15 days remission; and 1,131 inmates will receive 2 months remission.
"The remission could at least reduce the capacity overload in Penitentiaries or Detention Houses," said Director General of Correctional Facilities Sri Puguh Budi Utami in a written statement dated Thursday, June 14, 2018.
In addition, the remission is expected to reduce food budget by IDR 32 billion. "[The number] is the daily food budget for each person of IDR 14,700 multiplied by 2,205,300 imprisonment period saved by remission," Sri said.
