The Jakarta Light rail transit (LRT) will not be able to operate during the 2018 Asian Games, as it is impossible to finish the project in time for the sporting event.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla said there are still some problems in the construction as reported by Adhi Karya director Budi Harto in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
"The LRT cannot be used for the Asian Games. There is only four months remaining," Kalla told reporters.
Therefore, the Vice President suggested opening special train line for contingent and stakeholders during the 2018 Asian Games, to replace for the LRT's unpreparedness.
A number of problems are obstructing the LRT project, and the vice president said the solution requires coordination between the Transportation Ministry, the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, and several state-owned enterprises.
The LRT project was initially expected to be ready as a means of transport for the 2018 Asian Games contingent in Jakarta and Palembang.
To date, the LRT construction in Jakarta has not been completed. But for Palembang, the LRT can be operated for participants.
