According to the Ministry's Indonesian Citizen Protection Director Lalu Muhammad Iqbal the application has been tested since last year.
“This is a fun application where the user can easily find an information related to a country’s safety, prayer place, or halal food. They can also know other Indonesian citizens in the country. Besides, there are peer communication or a social media and a panic button installed,” said Iqbal to the reporters, today, April 5.
In addition, users can find a recommended restaurant which suits the Indonesian taste. Moreover, users can inform the country’s weather in real time. Safe Travel has also integrated with ride-hailing transportation, Grab.
“This application can benefit migrant worker such as in Hong Kong and Taiwan with a good internet network. Safe Travel application eases Indonesian citizen to connect with the embassy without coming to the office,” said Iqbal.
Iqbal noted Foreign Affairs Ministry did not make a huge investment in the application, but its concept was needed detailed planning and serious research. Safe Travel was developed through a tender process last year which won by Gamatech group from Gadjah Mada University. Until now, as many as 7,000 users have registered the app.
