TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno wants the construction of an integrated public-friendly public space (RPTRA) to be continued, if it is still needed by the community.

"It should resume if the residents still need it," he said on Monday, March 5.

The Jakarta Housing and Settlement Office head Agustino Darmawan had said that the RPTRA construction will be stopped after 2018. He said the city government has difficulties to find the land required to achieve the target of building 47 of these public spaces.

The RPTRA program was initiated by former governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, and is considered one of the man's legacies and flagship programs.

On the other hand, the Office of Parks and Cemetery still require land to build green open spaces (RTH), which ideally must account for 30 percent of Jakarta's total area. Agustino said it is better that government prioritizes the green spaces over public spaces.

According to Sandiaga, the RPTRA program is included in Jakarta's mid-term development plan (RPJMD), which he and Governor Anies Baswedan prioritize.

"We have made sure that these women-friendly, child- friendly open spaces, which are useful to the public, will continue to be one of our top priorities," he said.

If the RPTRA program is completed this year, Sandiaga said, there will be further development to ensure the area remains available. He did not elaborate about his continuation plan, and said reporters can ask the Bappeda about the technical elements.
