TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) projects Indonesia will receive an economic profit of Rp5.7 trillion from hosting the annual meeting between the IMF and the World Bank. The meeting itself will be held in Bali next October.
"In terms of variables, consumption, investment, and external growth, they will all move up. In terms of business fields, most will be moving to a better direction," the central bank's chief representative for Bali, Causa Iman Karana, said at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) in Badung, Friday, March 2.
According to Causa, BI has calculated the economic impacts of hosting the meeting; from the preparation stage to during the time of the meeting, which is slated to last from October 8 to 14.

Meanwhile, the chief of the IMF-World Bank Meeting's work unit, Peter Jacobs, said the Rp5.7 trillion was not in the amount of Indonesia's expense, but the benefit that the people would receive—especially those living in Bali.
The government, he said, spent more than Rp800 billion to host the meeting, which would see the attendance of more than 15,000 delegates from 189 countries.
"The economic circulation will push Bali's economic growth. That is the first effect—we have not calculated the follow-up one," he said after accompanying IMF executive director Christine Lagarde's visit to the BNDCC.
