Soekarno-Hatta Airport Train Stops Operating until Lines are Safe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Train will not be operating temporarily stopped until the line is declared safe, with regards to Monday night's landslide at an underpass going through the airport. The decision is made by train operator PT KAI for the sake of passengers' safety and security.

"For the time being, for safety and security, the airport train's operation is suspended until further notice," PT KAI president director Edi Sukmoro released an official statement on Wednesday, February 7.

On Monday evening, February 5, a landslide occurred at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s underpass, causing a 20-meter wall that retained the tunnel to collapse, burying two victims.

"We are closing the upstream and downstream lines for check-ups and repairs," PT Kai senior manager for regional operations 1 Edy Kuswoyo said in Jakarta, Monday, February 5.

PT KAI also expressed their condolences to the victims' families over the incident.

"And we apologize for the incident that caused the disruption of the train journey," he said.

PT KAI, Angkasa Pura II (AP2), and Waskita Karya are collaborating to compensation to the victims and their families.
