TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Motorcycle Producers Association (AISI) targets an increase in motorcycle sales this year reaching 5.9 to 6.1 million units.
“We predict that sales will rise 3 to 4 percent,” AISI spokesperson Sigit Kumala told Tempo on Friday, January 5.
Sigit explained sales will rise with the issuance of several policies regarding higher charges for vehicle registration certificate (STNK) and vehicle ownership document (BPKB), with the policy from Financial Services Authority (OJK) and with no increase in fuel price this year.
In 2017, motorcycle sales dropped. From January–November, the sales decreased to 5,470,107 units, slightly lower than the sales of the same period in the previous year with 5.49 million units.
Such a figure fell short of the initial target set by AISI in early 2017 with 6.2 million units, the target was lowered by mid-year into 5.9 million units and by the end of the year. It further went down to 5.75 million units.
Sigit stated that AISI will not likely to lower sales target as last year.
