5 Provinces Most Prone to SARA Issues During Elections: Minister

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo mentioned five provinces with the highest tendency of the use of tribal affiliations, religion, race and societal groups (SARA) issues in 2018 Regional Election.
"Temporarily, Papua placed first and West Java came second," he said in Yogyakarta on Saturday, December 30.

He explained that Papua has the highest tendency since not all of the people understand what election is. Meanwhile, West Java places second because it is the only region with the highest number of voters in Indonesia with all political parties fighting over this region.
Furthermore, he went on that other areas with high tendency of such issues include Central Java, East Java and West Sumatra.

In addition, he expects the police take active measures in handling the use of SARA in every political campaign. He also reminded the people to avoid the use of SARA, hoax and hate speech in campaigns. He also expected them to report those who use such issues.
