TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Setya Novanto lawyer Fredrich Yunadi said that his client will resign as Golkar chairman. He, however, elaborated that Setya will step down from his post once his pretrial motion is completed.

“After the pretrial motion hearings, [Setya Novanto] will lead Golkar extraordinary meeting in order to resign gracefully,” the lawyer told Tempo in a phone interview yesterday.

Golkar Regional Executive Council (DPP) East Nusa Tenggara chairman Melki Laka Lena earlier had claimed that Setya will resign in the near future.

Fredrich has confirmed the statement, adding that Setya will lead Golkar national extraordinary meeting before resigning.

The lawyer said that Novanto wants to leave Golkar gracefully by handing over power to the next chairman.

Otto Hasibuan, also Setya Novanto’s lawyer, said that he was not aware of his client’s plan to resign as Golkar chairman. “The last time I met him was Thursday and we did not discuss it,” he said.
