Labors Demand US$5 Rise

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Provincial Executive Board of Indonesian Metal Workers Federation (DPW FSPMI) threatened to deploy thousands of labors to rally in Jakarta city hall on Tuesday (31/10) demanding a rise in provincial minimum wage (UMP).

They demanded Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to realize his statement on raising Jakarta UMP as much as US$50 equals to Rp650,000. FSPMI also demanded Anies to disregard Government Regulation No. 78/2015 on wages.

Thousands of mass joined in Jakarta Labor Movement (GBJ) and Jakarta Labor Coalition (KBJ) will take part in the rally. KBJ is a labor organization that signed a political contract with Anies–Sandi in 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.

Jakarta FSPMI chair Winarso explained that government must determine UMP based on decent cost of living (KHL) survey as stipulated by Article 88 Paragraph 4 of Law No. 13/2003. The survey will be carried out by Jakarta Provincial Remuneration Board as instructed by Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno.

The rally will coincide with Jakarta Provincial Remuneration Board assembly to determine 2018 UMP. In addition to demanding a rise in UMP, FSPMI also demands stricter supervision on work safety and health (K3).
