TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rupiah was trading weaker from Rp13,509 to Rp13,525 per US dollar in Jakarta inter-bank market this morning.
Monex Investindo Futures chief researcher Ariston Tjendra said that hopes of US tax reform have boosted the US dollar versus other currencies, including the rupiah.
“The US dollar was supported after the US Senate approved the blueprint of a budget for the fiscal year 2018 which will pave the way for a tax cut plan,” he said.
On the other hand, he said, reports that Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe won the election also may become a positive catalyst for US dollar as the Japanese government plan to maintain a more relaxed monetary policy.
Samuel Sekuritas economist Lana Soelistianingsih said that the US Congress has approved President Doland Trump tax cut plan. “The approval is expected to give more boost to US economy,” he said.
He added that the market has responded positively to the approval as the US economy is expected to strengthen with expansionary fiscal policy.
