TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat launched a program #TrotoarKita (our sidewalk) on car free day areas in Hotel Indonesia roundabout, Central Jakarta, on Sunday morning. “Pedestrians’ rights must be safeguarded. To protect their rights, sidewalks must be cleared from parking violation, street vendors, and vehicles,” he said on Sunday (8/10).
This program is implemented from Sudirman Street to the end of M.H. Street, from Youth Monument toArjuna Wiwaha Fountain, with the total of 6.6 km long. Djarot explained that the sidewalks will be restructured from December 2017 to July 2018, or in the period of the new elected governor and deputy governor, Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno.
Currently, Djarot continued, the width of pedestrian lane is varied between 1.5 to 5 meters. After the program, it will be of better width up to 12 meters depending on the condition of the road.
Regarding the trees, Djarot added, based on temporary analysis, 326 trees will be maintained and 266 will be displaced.
Djarot expects that the program #TrotoarKita can provide convenient sidewalks for pedestrians in general and also for those with disability.
