Jakarta-Surabaya Semi High-speed Railway Project Kick off in 2018

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that Jakarta-Surabaya semi high-speed railway project will begin early next year.
"The latest discussion with Vice President Jusuf Kalla, this project will use existing lanes and can begin in 2018," he said in Sumenep, East Javaon Sunday (8/10).
This project, he continued, is fast and low cost and can resolve a lot of problems among others 800 points of Jakarta-Surabaya level crossings. It is predicated that Jakarta-Semarang track can be completed in two years, and Semarang-Surabaya in the next two years, he added.
This project allows shorter time to get to travel from Jakarta to Surabaya and vice versa in 5 hours.
He revealed that the investment needed for this project is around Rp60 trillion including around Rp20 trillion to handle 800 points of level crossings. In addition, Public Housing and Public Works (PUPR) Ministry will be involved to handle level crossings.
