Indonesia Hopes to be Elephantiasis-Free in 2020: Health Minister

TEMPO.CO, Demak - The government hopes to realize Indonesia free of elephantiasis in 2020, according to Health Minister Nila Farid Moeloek.
"For the time being, at least 12 regencies/cities in our country that have managed to eradicate the disease,” the Minister said in Demak Regency, Central Java, Saturday, Oct. 7.

Nevertheless, Nila hopes that 236 regencies/cities in the country where the disease is still endemic can follow those 12 regencies/cities to eradicate the disease. She added that one of those regencies where the disease is still endemic is Demak Regency, where 41 cases of elephantiasis are reported.
The minister added that to eradicate the disease needs supports from many stakeholders including from the public.
"We also call on the people to start living a healthy lifestyle because mosquitoes can spread various diseases one of which is elephantiasis,” she added.
