TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the home of former North Konawe Regent Aswad Sulaiman in Kendari City, Monday, October 2.
Iskandar, Aswad Sulaiman's neighbor who was asked by the KPK to be a witness to the search, said seven people wearing KPK vests searched the Mediterranean-style house for more than three hours.
Iskandar told Tempo on Monday that Aswad wasn’t home during the search, nor was his wife. Iskandar said he did not know the whereabouts of the homeowners.
The North Sulawesi Regional Police spokesman Adj. Comr. Sunarto confirmed the KPK's arrival at the house. He said they came to the station and requested police escort before conducting the search.
During his tenure as Regent of Nort Konawe, Aswad was implicated in a corruption allegation in the construction of the regency's office building in 2010-2011. Aswad and ten other people were named as suspects.
Aswad also previously paid Rp2.1 billion to compensate for state loss to the North Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office, although in the he was given a not-guilty verdict in APril this year by the Court of Kendari.
