TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya said the government allocates 30 percent of the state budget for airports construction to build airports in Papua.
"We’ve built more than 10 airports in Papua,” Budi said in Jakarta on Saturday, Sept. 30.
In the meantime, the minister added that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has made tourism industry development as one of the priorities of the national development.
Therefore, the government, he added, targets tourist arrival of up to 20 million tourists per year. The government hopes to meet the target of building 20 airports and ports all over Indonesia.
The availability of those infrastructures is expected to develop tourism industries in the country, Budi said.
The minister further said that starting on October 28 this year, the government would designate Silangit airport in North Sumatra as an international airport.
In addition, the government is also building Sibisa airport in North Sumatra and more piers in Lake Toba, North Sumatra.
"We hope foreign tourists from Malaysia and Singapore can visit Lake Toba," he concluded.
