Indonesian Biopic Istirahatlah Kata - Kata Wins Award in Bulgaria

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian biopic Istirahatlah Kata-Kata, directed by Yosep Anggi Noen, won a special award at the International Film Festival ‘Love is Folly’ in Varna City, Bulgaria. The festival was held from August 25 to September 3.

Nurul Sofia, a spokesman for the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Sofia, said that 102 films were screened at the one of the biggest Balkan film festival. According to her, Istirahatlah Kata-Kata received the second most prestigious award after the Grand Prix Award.

Sekar Ayu Asmara, a curator at the Film Development Center, the Education and Culture Ministry, said that the film Istirahatlah Kata-Kata—a biopic of poet, political activist Widji Tukul—was chosen to compete in the event because anyone of any nationality can reflect on the story.

An international jury panel awarded the Grand Prix Aphrodite to Hungary’s The Citizen. Rimma Zyubina won the Best Actress for her performance in Ukraine’s The Nest of the Turtledove and Best Actor was won by Konu for Turkey’s Wedding Dance.

In this year’s edition of the International Film Festival (IFF) Love is Folly, Indonesia had a special session called Indonesian Film Panorama (Focus on Indonesia Cinema). The session saw the screening of 6 Indonesian movies.

Aside from Istirahatlah Kata-Kata, the Indonesian Panorama featured Nokas, Athirah, Salawaku, Emma, Aisyah Biarkan Kami Bersaudara, and Kejarlah Daku Kau Kutangkap.
