TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Industry Ministry will test 10 road-worthy electric powered vehicles.
According to the Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto on Sunday, August 27, the prototype machines will be handed to the Transportation Ministry and the Environment and Forestry Ministry to be tested. At the same time, the ministries will also be formulating the regulation for electric vehicles.
In developing the electric powered vehicles, supporting infrastructures and technology would be needed but the challenge is the number of suppliers and the supporting industry are still minuscule.
“We’ll need better preparations, such as battery technology and the charging station. If possible, it (the recharged battery) will last for another 200km-300km distance,” said Minister Airlangga.
He argues that in order to accelerate the commercialization and development of domestic electrical or hybrid production vehicles is to provide fiscal and non-fiscal incentives towards the industry. Airlangga believes that it will push Indonesia’s competitiveness in the international level.
The incentives could possibly be given in several phases that are adjusted according to each manufacturer’s in-depth commitment towards the industry, such as establishing a localized research and development center for electric motor components, batteries, and power control units, the minister added.
