TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Guests at Indonesia’s 72nd Independence Day celebration at the State Palace on August 17 are asked to wear traditional dresses.
“All are expected to do so. To be different, to make it more colorful, to show our nationalism,” Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung told reporters yesterday at the presidential palace compound in Jakarta.
Pramono said that the instruction to wear traditional dresses is mentioned in the invitations sent by the State Secretariat Ministry.
The Cabinet Secretariat said that two ceremonies will be held to celebrate Indonesia’s 72nd Independence Day, namely the flag-raising ceremonies in the morning and in the afternoon.
In the ceremonies, Pramono will be wearing Yogyakarta and Balinese traditional dresses.
Moreover, Pramono is hopeful that all former presidents and vice presidents of the Republic of Indonesia would attend the ceremonies.
Earlier, Banyuwangi Regent Azwar Anas said that as many as 200 traditional dancers comprising middle school students have departed for Jakarta on Saturday night to perform Jejer Kembang Menur dance and latest creation of Jejer Gandrung dance.
Gandrung dance will be performed after the ceremony marking the 72nd anniversary of the Declaration of Independence at the State Palace in Jakarta.
