TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The man who hangs an ISIS flag at Kebayoran Lama Police Headquarters has been arrested. “His name is Gilman Omar Harridhi, a resident of Jalan Nurisan in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta,” said the National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto.
Ghilman was arrested at his home on Saturday at 9 pm. He has admitted to hanging an ISIS flag. The man said that he was not instructed to do so by anyone. “His motivation is to remind authorities that democracy is haram [forbidden].”

Rikwanto said that Ghilman claimed he had pledged allegiance to ISIS this year. He had learned more about ISIS and radicalism by himself since 2015, mostly from the internet. “One of which being Telegram groups and channels,” he said.
The man hung ISIS flag, 100 by 50 centimeters in dimension, at Kebayoran Lama Police Headquarters in the morning on 3 July. The police also found a threatening letter in a plastic bottle against the police and the military. The perpetrator said that Jakarta would be turned into the next Marawi.

Rikwanto said that Ghilman had earlier planned the hanging of the flag. One day before the incident, the man conducted a field survey and wrote threatening letters. “The ISIS flag and threatening letters were made by himself. There are two letters, one was kept at home,” the police said.
