TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sony Pictures' stock increased by 1.7 percent following the success of their latest release, Spider-Man: Homecoming. The latest Marvel Comics superhero movie adaptation unexpectedly shattered the box office.
The movie’s premier managed to collect US$117 million, which surpassed the initial expectation of US$80 million - US$110 million.

The achievement made the movie as the second most profitable Spider-Man movie in its franchise right after Spider-Man 3 (2007) that managed to collect US$ 151 million during its premiere. The total revenue worldwide reached US$890.8 million.
According to boxofficemojo.com Spider-Man: Homecoming is expected to collect US$250 million globally, which will surely surpass its US$175 million budget.

The main character, Peter Parker, in Spider-Man: Homecoming is played by British actor, Tom Holland. Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. plays the character Tony Stark, which is the character behind the Iron Man suit. It also features Vulture played by Adrian Toomes.
Tom Holland is the third different actor portraying the character Spider-Man after Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
According to BBC, the total earnings of box office movies this year was not as high as last year. Other than Spider-Man: Homecoming, even with help from other 2017 movies in the current box office list such as Transformers and Despicable Me 3, the total revenue of box office movies in 2017 just managed to collect US$ 2.3 billion, decreasing by 8 percent when compared to 2016.
