TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is deemed too slow in taking actions to dismiss and ban Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) through a legal mechanism. As a result, the mass organization is still conducting their activities.
GP Anshor chairman Yaqut Cholil Qoumas criticized the government that seems to overlook this crucial issue. Yaqut said that since the announcement of HTI disbandment on 8 May until now the government has not taken any significant legal steps to stop them from doing their activities.

“Government seems indifferent. To this day, we haven’t heard any follow-up measures taken by the government to legally process the mass Islamic organization. People wonder whether the government is serious to disband HTI that obviously goes against Pancasila and 1945 Constitution,” Yaqut or Gus Yaqut emphasized in Jakarta on Friday, July 7.
He said that government keeps making excuses that they are still conducting reviews on HTI disbandment mechanism. Based on the Law No. 17 /2013, the disbandment of mass organizations has to be done through court.
However, Gus Yaqut continued, if the government really means to disband HTI, the government can use Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) which governs mass organizations.
