Homecoming Travelers Estimated to Reach 5.5 Millions This Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Directorate General for Air Transportation at the Transportation Ministry estimated that plane passengers during Eid al-Fitr holiday this year will reach 5.5 million people, rising from about 4.9 million passengers last year.
Air Transportation Director General Agus Santoso in AirNav Indonesia office in Cengkareng on Friday, May 26, said 532 airplanes are ready to carry 5.7 million passengers during Eid holiday this year.
"Passengers will be carried by planes with a different type of capacity, the seats are also different. The capacity of the planes are 5,780,000 seats and 5.5 million will be used, so the remaining seats will be used for peak days," Agus explained.
Transportation Ministry will complete the tests of airworthiness and safety of 532 planes from 14 airlines prepared to carry passengers throughout Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
The tests were completed for 510 planes and the tests for the remaining 22 planes will be completed on Saturday, May 27, so that the planes will be ready to operate in Ramadan.
The Ministry stipulate 26 days of Eid homecoming period from June 15 to July 10 and the peak of homecoming is estimated on June 23 and the peak of counter-exodus is estimated on July 2.
