TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Lithuania signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) today, May 17, in Jakarta. In a bilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace Wednesday, President Joko Widodo and Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite agreed to establish partnerships in the energy and transportation sectors.
"The first cooperation is for the energy sector, which involves biomass energy, waste energy, and gas," President Jokowi said in a joint press conference with President Grybauskaite.
The energy partnership agreement was signed by Lithuanian Energy Minister Zygimantas Vaiciunas and Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignatius Jonan. Lithuania seeks to partner in LNG processing with Indonesia, the world's fourth largest LNG exporter.
In transportation, the MoU is specifically related to the Indonesian aviation industry. Indonesia and Lithuania, Jokowi said, will partner in increasing the use of IT as well as other technical techniques for aircraft reparation and maintenance.
Grybauskaite, Lithuania's first female president, hopes the partnership will expand to other sectors such as science and agriculture.
"I hope our visit today becomes a moment that encourages the establishment of partnerships in agriculture," she said.
