TEMPO.CO, Seattle - Lee Lik Hsin, CEO of Singapore Airlines subsidiary Scoot operating in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Denpasar, revealed that he had been in communications with Indonesian authorities.

Lee added that Indonesian officials had visited Scoot to discuss flights. However, Lee did not reveal whether his company is planning to serve new flight routes outside the three cities.

“We have entered the Indonesian market and served Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali,” Lee said.
Lee made the statement during a flight on the latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Seattle to Singapore. The new aircraft, equipped with beds for crew, arrived at Changi Airport in Singapore on Friday evening, May 12, 2017, after flying for 15 hours from Seattle, US.

In response to tight competition in the Southeast Asia aviation industry, Lee expressed optimism that Scoot can seize an opportunity in the market. Lee refused to respond to a question on how Scoot can compete with other companies operating in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Scoot’s flights are operated by Budget Aviation Holdings under Singapore Airlines Group’s umbrella. Lee added that Scoot and Tiger have served flights from and to 59 cities in 16 Asia Pacific countries.

Scoot purchased the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner in February 2015 and has become the first airlines operating the new airplane. Scoot has served 23 flights from Singapore to a number of cities in 9 countries, including Sidney, Jeddah, Taipei, Tokyo, and Perth.
