TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - I Wayan Sudirta, lawyer of religious blasphemy convict Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok said that the appeal for suspended jail term will be decided by the panel of judges for appeals.

However, Wayan said that the Jakarta High Court has not yet appointed judges to decide the appeal.

“We’re still waiting for the appointment of the panel of judges to process the appeal for the suspended jail term,” Wayan said in Jakarta today, May 12.

Wayan revealed that Ahok’s legal team visited the high court to confirm that the court has received the letter of appeal.

Since the decision related to the appeal is the hands of the panel of judges, Wayan said that his team will send a request to expedite the legal process.

Another Ahok’s legal team member, Edi Danggur, added that his team will hand over an appeal brief in the near future.

“We will hand over the file on Monday or Tuesday,” he said.

Earlier, Jakarta High Court spokesperson Yohanes Suhadi said that the appeal for suspended jail term for Ahok has not been processed yet since the court has not received the appeal dossier from the North Jakarta District Court.
