TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) welcomes the visit of Chilean President Veronica Michelle Bachelet at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, today, May 12. Presiden Bachelet arrived at 10:00 am.
The Chilean president is planned to stay in Indonesia for two days from May 11 to 12. President Bachelet will discuss cooperation in trade sector, maritime and fisheries sector, as well as social and cultural collaboration with President Jokowi.
“It is in line with the Indonesian Government’s priority in the effort to expand the Indonesian products' access to the South American market,” as stated by the Foreign Affairs Ministry in its written statement.
While in Indonesia, President Bachelet will also attend a seminar held by the chambers of commerce and industry (Kadin) in the two countries.
She will also visit the ASEAN Secretariat and lay a wreath at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta.
Chile is Indonesia’s third largest trade partner in South America. In 2016, trade between Chile and Indonesia reached US$227 million, with Indonesia enjoying a surplus of US$60.5 million.
The two countries are in the process of negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is expected to increase trade and investment between the two countries.
