TEMPO.CO, Manjung - The Manjung steam power plant in Perak, Malaysia is importing 10 million tons of coal per year from Indonesia.
Integra Berhad CEO Mohammad Zahir said the steam power plant, which has an installed capacity of 3,100 MW, needs 10 million tons of coal supply per year, all of which coming from Indonesia.
The 3,100 MW-capacity comes from four units of 3x700 MW and 1x1.000 MW power generators.
"We import about 10 million tons of coal per year from Indonesia," he said when visiting the power plant in Perak.
He said that every three days, a ship comes to send the coal to be stored in Manjung coal terminal. Of the 10 million tons imported each year, 70 percent or 700,000 tons are bought from Adaro. The rest is supplied by other Indonesian companies.
The coal purchase contract was signed in 2003, when the power plan's first unit began commercial operation. The futures contract with three to five years validity has continued to be extended up to now.
"Seventy percent of the supply comes from Adaro under a long-term contract that has been in effect since our first operation," he said.
