TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) is working with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to secure its assets. Many of the state-owned railway operator's assets are currently controlled by individuals, some of them state officials or state former officials, including regional heads.
"We just certified a plot of land in Mertoyudan Magelang, nearly 10 hectares in size, which was previously controlled by another entity," PT KAI's manager of public relations for operating area 6 Eko Budiyanto said on Friday, April 14.
KPK will be tasked with supervising cases of land ownership by parties other than PT KAI, not only in Java, but also other assets all around Indonesia.
Most of the land used by PT KAI in Yogyakarta belongs to the Sultanate. However, there are also people parties who claim that the lands belonged to them, even though Panitikismo—the Yogyakarta Palace's division in charge of assets, has allowed PT KAI to use their land.
"There are assets controlled by individuals who have no right over them. They must be returned as they are needed to build the railway industry in a comprehensive manner," said KPK deputy chairman Saut Situmorang.
