TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) protested against the travel ban imposed on DPR Speaker Setya Novanto. DPR members plan to submit an appeal to the ban directly to President Joko Widodo.
Setya's travel ban was issued by the immigration office based on a request made by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Setya is considered as a valuable witness in the electronic ID card or e-KTP graft case.
DPR Deputy Speaker Fahri Hamzah, said that the letter of appeal is currently being finalized by the DPR members. Fahri added that he will also personally review the letter before it gets delivered. "We'll immediately send it [after the review]," Fahri said on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
Fahri argued that Setya Novanto should not have been banned from traveling because he is not being uncooperative.
Setya himself responded lightly regarding the letter. "Oh, I haven't read [the letter]. You should ask Pak Fahri," Setya said.
