TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, said that the government will cooperate with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to carry out phase II of the Bali Beach Conservation Project. Previously, phase I of the project has been carried out by conserving Sanur Beach, Nusa Dua Beach, Kuta Beach and the Tanah lot Temple.
Basuki explained that Indonesia and Japan share similar geographical conditions, allowing both countries to cooperate in beach conservation project.
Putu Eddy Purna Wijaya, an official of the Bali Penida River Area Agency, the government and JICA has signed a credit agreement to fund phase II of the project. The agreement, Eddy explained, covers funding for consultation and construction services.
"There will be four location [of the phase II project], including Legian-Seminyak Beach in Badung Regency, the Candidasa Beach in Karangasem Regency, Benoa Bay in Badung Regency, and more conservation efforts on Nusa Dua Beach. Total value of the loan is JPY 1.1 billion or Rp 1.2 trillion," Eddy said in a press release on Monday, April 3, 2017.
Eddy said that the Bali Penida River Area Agency will start the auction of consultant services for the project in the near future. "The consultants' task will be creating a design. Hopefully, the design can be drafted in 2018, so we can start construction in 2019," Eddy said.
Eddy stated that local residents will also be involved in creating a design suitable for the project
