TEMPO.CO, Ponorogo - At least 200 residents affected by landslides in two subvillages Tangkil and Krajan in Banaran village, Ponorogo sub-district, East Java were evacuated to safer residential areas.

"Some evacuated in emergency tents, other residents’ houses, places of worship, or schools that can serve as temporary shelters," chief of Banaran village Sarnu confirmed in the middle of evacuation process on Saturday (1/04).

Two refugees who witnessed the landslide and lost their family members are traumatized by the incident. A number of witnesses also watched farmers who harvested ginger and attempted to save themselves, but they failed to survive.

"The location is closest to the collapsed cliff," Sirmadi said. Sirmadi’s life was spared because he was working in the market when the disaster struck.
