TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Executive Head of the Capital Market Supervision Department of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Nurhaida said the number of retail investors in Indonesia reaches 1 million investor this year.
However, he said that the figure is still too small compared to the Indonesian population, which is still around 0.39 percent out of Indonesia’s 250 million people.
Nurhaida added that the number has surged in the past two years from around 400,000 investors.
"This is an extraordinary achievement,” she said in Jakarta on Saturday.
In the neighboring Malaysia and Singapore, she said the number of retail investors can reach 30 percent of the total population.
This, she hopes Indonesian can continue increasing the number of retail investors and OJK and Bank Indonesia have disseminated the issue of retail investors in many regions.
