TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa hopes Islamic boarding schools are capable of contributing more positive energy to the nation.
"Challenges in Indonesia are far more serious than before and Islamic boarding schools have to be able to answer to these challenges," Khofifah said when she attended the 40th anniversary of Diniyah Putri Muara Bungo Islamic boarding school in Jambi on Saturday (18/2).
Among those challenges, those of importance are the negative impact of globalization, the ease of information access, and the threats of drugs. Therefore, religious teachers of these schools have to be literate in information technology.
She further added that information technology has become a necessity of the society, especially young generation. Thus, it is no wonder that a lot of crimes utilize information technology such as human trafficking, online prostitution, and drug abuse.
"There are a lot of good and bad information. If religious teachers and ulema do not understand information technology, how can thet actively participate in hampering its negative impact?" she added.
