Police to Summon Rizieq Next Week over Hammer and Sickle Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police has scheduled to examine the Islamic Defender Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab next week in relation to his statement about the presence of the hammer and sickle logo in the new Rupiah bank notes.
"[Rizieq will be examined] probably next week," said Chief of Public Relation of the Metro Jaya Police Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
Argo said currently, the Police have questioned several witnesses. Argo added that the Police had even decided to escalate the investigation status. Rizieq has been alleged of committing hate speech in relation to the hammer and sickle logo.
Previously, the Red and White Solidarity Group and the Anti-Defamation Intellectual Youth Network (JIMAF) filed a report against Rizieq for hate speech.
The Police have questioned expert witnesses from Bank Indonesia who provided an explanation on the security logo included in the new bank notes.
Argo stated that the Police is waiting for investigators to immediately summoned Rizieq. "Just wait for the investigation result, we also wait for the schedule from the investigators," Argo said.
