TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto revealed that illegal levy eradication task force (Saber Pungli) is not posted in every ministerial office. “Up until now, there is one ministry that hasn’t submitted its report [on illegal levy] yet. Which makes me suspicious,” Wiranto said on Thursday, January 12, 2017.
Saber Pungli is the first program of law reform. In its inception, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, urged that the public service sector must be prioritized. He added that illegal levy practice has been existing since the colonial age and presents in every government regime.
“Pak Adam Malik said that illegal levy is a chronic disease; a plague,” Wiranto said. “It’s time for us to eradicate it, in the ways that are justified by the law.”
Since the task force targets the public service sector, Wiranto said, then every agency and ministry must establish a Saber Pungli unit. The Ministry of Education and Culture was one of the quickest groups to respond to the activities of Saber Pungli.
Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy hopes the Saber Pungli task force can affect the performance of his ministerial's office.
The Ministry's Inspector General Daryanto said that the illegal levy practice outside of state official environment hurt the public service.
