TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A researcher from the Indonesian Parliamentary Social Concern Forum (Formappi) Marchellinus Djadijono, stated that the House of Representatives (DPR) had left a bad image in 2016.
"[They] replace their Speaker as they like and change recess policy and even freely conduct overseas work visits," says Marchellinus on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
According to Marchellinus, another problem that surrounds the DPR was its inconsistency in determining high-priority draft bill to discuss. Marchellinus said that the DPR have at least made three changes in the list of high-priority draft bills.
Marchellinus said that on June 20, 2016, the DPR added 10 draft bills into its high-priority list, and added another one during the closing stages of its Plenary Meeting.
In addition, several bills, including on Monopoly Practice and Unhealthy Business Competition, draft bill on social violence, and the draft bill on palm oil, which were all planned to be completed, have not been passed.
Marchellinus said that such condition revealed that the success of the National Legislation Program relies heavily on political interests of each political parties. "It doesn't reflect to the nation's actual needs," Marchellinus said.
