TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin said those who spread hoaxes are categorized as ‘sinners’.
He also hopes the people who read or hear the news whose source is unclear will not forward it to others.
"I would like to remind you that in this digital era, Religious Affairs Ministry will take part in keeping the Indonesian people from the negative impacts of social medias,” Lukman said in Jakarta on Friday (30/12).
Lukman also called on officials at the ministry to also take part in protecting the people from the negative impacts of social media and to rectify the validity of the news.
"Be critical when using social media. If we receive hoaxes, just keep it to ourselves and don’t spread it. Unless we are sure of the validity of the news,” he said.
"Don’t easily share news if we’re not sure about its validity or its benefits,” he added.
