TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama responded lightly to the religious blasphemy case entangling him which its dossier has been declared complete by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). The AGO has asked the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim) to submit evidences.
“If [the dossier] is complete, it means that a trial will be held soon,” Ahok said at his campaign team headquarter Rumah Lembang in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.
To this date, Ahok claimed that he has not received a summons in relation to the case. However, he believes that the case will be settled soon, as he has planned to present evidences to the panel of judges.
Ahok is convinced that he did not commit a religious blasphemy. If the judge ruled against him, Ahok said that he would make an appeal.
“We will make an appeal. We have built a system. The court can take a year or two to issue a verdict,” he said.
Ahok promised that he would follow the legal procedures while waiting for a verdict. According to him, everyone who is undergoing a legal process will use their right to file for an appeal.
Earlier, on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, Bareskrim named Ahok as a suspect for allegedly committing a religious blasphemy by citing the Quran’s Al-Maida verse 51 in his speech before Thousand Island residents on September 27, 2016. Ahok is charged with Articles 156 and 156a of the criminal code.
