Jakarta Police Closes off Roads During Independence Day Ceremony

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Jakarta Metro Police closes several roads in Jakarta during the Flag Raising Ceremony at the State Palace. “At least 8 roads are closed due to the independence day ceremony,” said Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations chief Sr. Comr. Awi Setiono on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

The closed roads include Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Medan Merdeka Utara, Jalan Veteran Raya, Jalan Veteran I, II, and III. Also Jalan Majapahit, silang Monas, Jalan Museum, and Jalan Budi Kemuliaan from Jalan Abdul Muis.

The traffic is redirected to other roads, namely from Air Mancur roundabouts to the left towards Jalan Budi Kemuliaan, Jalan Abdul Muis, Jalan Majapahit, Harmoni and so forth. People can also turn right from Air Mancur roundabouts to Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan and Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur.

Traffic from Jalan Budi Kemuliaan is redirected to jembatan serong to the left to Jalan Kebon Sirih and Jalan MH Thamrin. Traffic from Pejambon towards Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara is redirected to Pertamina intersection, passing through Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, Jalan Perwira, Lapangan Banteng and so forth.

Traffic from Jalan Majapahit is redirected towards Harmoni, Jalan Juanda, water gate, Jalan Pos and Jalan Lapangan Banteng. Traffic from Stasiun Kota towards Harmoni is redirected to the left to Mangga Besar, Gunung Sahari and Jalan Wiryo Pranoto in Pecenongan area.

Traffic from Stasiun Kota is also redirected to the right towards Jalan Zinul Arifin. Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate deploy at least 90 personnel to help reduce traffic congestion. “There are three rings of traffic level,” Awi said.

The red ring or Ring III is overseen by personnel in 8 outposts in a number of location around the State Palace. Whereas the blue ring or Ring IV is overseen by personnel in 4 outposts. The green ring of Ring V is overseen by personnel in 10 outposts scattered through MH Thamrin, Medan Merdeka Selatan and Medan Merdeka Timur.
