TEMPO.CO, Mataram-Lombok International Airport has been reopened at 8 am Tuesday, August 2, 2016 local time. Earlier, the airport was closed at 4:50 pm Monday, August 1 local time due to volcanic ash of Baru Jari cinder cone at Mounth Rinjani.
Lombok International Airport general manager I Gusti Ngurah Ardita said the weather is conducive for resumption of flight operation since the ash from Baru Jari Mountain has subsided.
“We have rescheduled [the flights]. Airlines are now preparing for to resume their flights,” Ardita told Tempo Tuesday, August 2, 2016.
As many as 15 local flights and two international flights were cancelled from yesterday to last night.
Rinjani Mountain Observation Outpost director Mutaharlin said after an earthquake that struck north west of Dompu District, West Nusa Tenggara, Baru Jari cinder cone had erupted three times on Monday, August 1, 2016, at 11:46 am, 11:50 am and 4:33 pm. “The amplitude [of volcanic tremors] was at 52 millimeter with roughly 2,000-meter-high cloud,” Mutaharlin said.
Meanwhile, Transporation Ministry has issued Notice to Airmen (Notam) No. B4640/16 on resumption of flight activities in Lombok International Airport today.
